In the Beginning...
Herein I set down the history of our Cabal, from the time of it's foundation up until the present day. Our small-minded enemies, who might use this book against us if they ever obtained it, shall not profit from any of the history here recorded, for I shall neither scribe the name of any mortal member nor divulge the nature of our present deliberations.

In our beginning, the glorious founder, the most magnificent Zamiel Al'Shaitan, Dark Overlord of Damnation brought together the foremost Killers, Murderers, and Warriors of the day, assembling them in the city of Midgaard. He proposed his plan, for the foundation of a Brotherhood that would multiply their powers through cooperation, and after a brief debate all agreed that the Cabal should be formed forthwith. Their oaths were sworn, a leader was elected, and by unanimous assent, Zamiel Al'Shaitan was installed in perpetuity to that rank.

Its members numbered fifty-five, and one in each full ten were raised by Zamiel to marshal the remainder. Thus from the first day, five Masters served their God, these being the Masters of Hatred, Malice, Wrath, Greed, and Death.

Strongholds and secret places were created, wealth gathered, and artifacts of power sought. The Cabal grew five-fold, and members new and old worked together, inspired and united by their leaders energy and power, so that marvelous conquests and great discoveries were made. Never before in the history of the world had such a brotherhood existed, and never before had the Gates of the Infernus strained so close to bursting.

For under the inspired direction of its Leader and God, the Cabal, now known as the Knights of Zamiel, gained its greatest honor in the city of Eltabbar, its foremost members there receiving lands and titles. And in that city a great Wheel was built, a mighty magic which would blow wide the very Gates of the Infernus, and multiply the power of the Knights one hundred fold. With the planes conjoined as one, the Knights would have risen to command the world, and the power of demonkind would have burned across the lands, as the break of day after an endless night.

And yet as the greatest of our worthies gathered to turn the Wheel, to shatter the Gates of the Infernus, other plotted against them, in both the mortal world, and those beyond. A catastrophe befell the Knights that day, as the ungrateful demons once more consigned themselves to the abyss. The work of fifty years was undone, and the city that could have been the seat of a glorious Empire burned red as blood. A horde of demons burst forth upon the Knights and the city, killing many and putting others to flight.

Five thousand of the creatures sacked the city for five days, and left not one stone upon another, nor one living thing not soaked in blood. The fiefs and dukedoms of the Knights fell with the city of Eltabbar, and the flames, fanned by the demons lit the sky as bright as the sun, so that it seemed there was no night, but only a long red day. The fires could be seen for five hundred miles, as the temples and priests burned, even the Gods of Good were filled with fear.

Therefor, upon divine command, paladins and demon slayers gathered forces, and marched with priests armies under the banner of Tamo to confront the demons. But by the time these hosts arrived, the demons had withdrawn to their own plane, and the righteous fools sought some other victims upon which to vent their holy indignation. And their wizards looked into the past, and they saw our Cabal.

And so before the embers of Eltabbar were cold, the zealous fools fell upon us, the small-minded and the scared with words of cold justice and a pallet for our blood. The blades of torturers and soldiers cut as scythes.

When this slaughter was done, the Knights had no more than fifty active members. Many more had escaped the lunatic massacres, but had fled and had renounced their oaths, or could not be contacted. A new stronghold was required, but for some time nothing was done, as the Master of Hatred sought to contact our scattered remains.

After these dread events, Zamiel mandated that the Knights should seek out only the most powerful, and the most worthy to fight under his banner, and to enforce so, limited his Cabal size to no more than twenty. A new Leader was then chosen by Zamiel, one of mortal flesh and blood, to maintain his vigil upon the lands, and to once again bring the Knights back to power.
